GAAT or Google Analytics Advanced Tracker works with or without jQuery and will help developers track usage statistics for clicks to various resources.

GAAT will properly detect each of the aforementioned resources and properly send them for logging in Google Analytics.

This way webmasters can analyze site resource usage insied their Google Analytics dashboard, with separate statistics for external resources, mail links and file downloads.
